Wisconsin State Statute 118.163 states [that] “truancy is defined as being absent from school without an acceptable excuse for part or all of any day on which school is held during a school semester.”
While over 90% of our students have excellent attendance, truancy has increased for some of the student body. We are continuing to maintain our high standards of excellence for our students and our school. With that being said, excellence starts with being to school on time everyday and being on time during all periods of the school day.
Starting February 7, 2009, Saturday Morning Detentions (SMD) will be assigned to students who habitually break our school attendance policy. Those who are excessively tardy to school, late to class, and/or unexcused absent from class, will be required to either attend a SMD, or be referred to the Brown Deer Police and issued a citation for truancy, which results in a court appearance, a monetary fine and/or other consequences assigned by the municipal court.
We are asking your commitment as a parent/guardian to teach our students that there are consequences for failing to fulfill basic responsibilities. Please be sure your daughter/son understands this policy and the consequences for not complying with school rules. Thank you.
