Tosha Womack joined Brown Deer High School as Assistant Principal in August of 2010 after holding several administrative positions in the Milwaukee Public School District. Prior to her administrative tenure for MPS, she served as a special education teacher.
During her three years as Assistant Principal, Mrs. Womack led the Safe and Supportive Schools grant initiative through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Those efforts included implementation of Response-to-Intervention (RTI) programming to diagnose and address student learning needs, along with extending key elements of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports that were initiated at Brown Deer Middle School. During this time, Brown Deer High School has shown a reduction in both failing grades and in student behavioral referrals.
In addition, Mrs. Womack led the implementation of the BDHS Character Education Initiative, in collaboration with Alverno College's Leadership Academy in Character Education. She has also collaborated with the administrative and guidance teams to launch "Ignition" orientation days for new students in grades 9, 8 and 7. Both of these programs have expanded the training and assignment of student peer mentors. Homeroom teachers and peer mentors provide regular Character Education lessons each month.
Along with the student components, Mrs. Womack assembled a collaborative faculty leadership committee in 2012 called the Brown Deer Way committee. This working team has also included student and parent involvement to focus on top priorities for continuous program improvement to impact student learning and character development. In conjunction with the BDM/HS and District administrative team, Mrs. Womack has also lead literacy and writing initiatives through the English and Social Studies departments.
Mrs. Womack was promoted to Principal of the newly renovated Brown Deer Middle/High School in August of 2013.
